The History Of Second Cup

Second Cup, one of the most popular specialty coffee shops, is a proud Canadian company that began in the year 1975.  Second Cup is very “committed to coffee integrity by certifying all of their Baristas who sell Fairly Traded Rainforest Alliance CertifiedTM coffees and teas each week” (Second Cup).

Second Cup began their journey as a “kiosk in a shopping mall that sold six blends of specialty coffee beans” (Second Cup) in August 1975. Through out the next couple of years, the business began to grow rapidly. By the year of 1989, “Second Cup had approximately 130 cafés, with shopping malls and office tower locations comprising over two thirds of its café network, and an ongoing focus on brewed coffee, whole bean coffee and coffee-related merchandise” (Second Cup).

Due to the growth of breaking into the Quebec market in the 1990s, Second Cup began to serve “espresso-based beverages, iced beverages, blender drinks, and more” (Second Cup).

Second Cup has become a second home to many individuals. The company has created a great appreciation of coffee in our environment, bringing individuals together who share the same love of their coffee. In addition, the baristas of Second Cup take pride in every cup of coffee, therefore, “there truly is a little love in every cup” (Second Cup).
